Should an employee be afraid of AI?

Artificial intelligence, as the latest technology, has become a permanent fixture in our everyday lives. More and more sectors are being transformed in order to be able to use AI, which is often
a very profitable procedure that generates lower costs. Furthermore, in companies providing services, one can observe partial replacement by Artificial Intelligence of work previously performed by employees.

Can AI replace an employee?

In many cases it turns out that this is possible. The undoubted advantage of Artificial Intelligence is its multitasking and the fact that it has greater energy resources than a typical employee. Robots can, for example, respond to constantly arriving emails to the company’s main mailbox, regardless of the time of day or night. Therefore, they are such a tempting alternative to a human employee, which many employers are considering. As a result, there is increasing anxiety among employees who are concerned about their position in the company or in the labor market,
in general, in 2025.

What concerns does AI bring?

The first concern among employees is related to the possible reduction of jobs in companies which would enter the AI era and see the successes related to lower expenses, they would like to fire
a few people who would to be unnecessary. A human has certain specific possibilities and limits for performing work and the time when he or she is focused on the task. The working day must also  include time for breaks for regeneration. In contrast, the machine does not need the above-mentioned limits or breaks, so it is more efficient. An additional advantage is the fact that
the employer will be able to save on employee contributions by using robots.

Another thing is the pressure associated with the employee maintaining his or her current position. People sometimes need more time to learn or develop a skill that they will need in their daily work. On the other hand, robots can do it much faster and they do not need a teacher. Instead, by using an appropriate algorithm, they can have the skill data uploaded to the system. This creates stress and pressure among employees that they will fall behind or not be sent for training to expand their knowledge.

A potential threat may also be the removal of some of the employee’s responsibilities, which can now be handled by Artificial Intelligence. This might result not only in lower employee morale but also in reduced commitment to perform the assigned activities. With the development of AI, there is a risk that some professions will no longer be needed completely, and as a result, employees will be forced to retrain, which may be problematic or even impossible for them at a certain age.

An interesting phenomenon is also the fear among company managers who have decided to implement Artificial Intelligence in their daily activities. They are concerned about whether this technology is being used properly and does not pose a threat to their safety. In this situation, two risks are mentioned: legal and cconnected with cybersecurity. A question that often arises when analyzing AI functionality is “How to use technology ethically?”. It happens that employees are not properly trained in how to use Artificial Intelligence properly, which causes them discomfort and unnecessary stress.

In order to minimize concerns about AI among employees, it would be a good decision for companies that use this technology to establish specific instructions and rules. This would dispel any doubts when working with Artificial Intelligence and improve the self-confidence of employees who will have instructions and would not be afraid of the morality of using this technology. Moreover, it is worth considering to conducti a series of training sessions within the company, aimed at familiarizing employees with the new solutions that will be applicable in the business and analyzing how AI will affect employees’ current positions and their daily duties.
